"YOUR" Grand-daughters & Our Life Update

Hey Dad,

Today was YOUR granddaughters' first day of preschool.

They were so excited, neither of them cried or anything. Ryan and I walked away not really knowing what to do with our time...

My long term plans are to refinish the bedroom furniture you gave me from Knoles Court. I remember that you got it second hand when you got married. I'm going to do a cream whitewash with dark brown glazing. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've been canning alot. The neighbor gave me some green beans and I canned 9 pints. 40 quarts of apricots, 20 pints of apricot jam. The peaches were tougher, so I only got about 10 quarts of peaches canned besides the jam. Lots of soups, meats, etc. I sure do love the pressure canner. What a great $70 spent!

Hoping our chickens start to lay soon. And I'll be getting some fertilized eggs to incubate too. We only have 2 hens, with 2 roosters. I'd sure love your advice on butchering chickens. One of the roosters is headed for the cookpot (reminding me of "Peach" on Lonesome Dove), maybe both if I don't hate the processing part of the deal. I remember you "processing" chickens in the garage at Knoles Court. We were told to stay in the house! That's all I know. Bummer. That knowledge could come in quite handy about now.

Love you, Dad. MUH!

Rex & His "5" Girls

Grandma told me that Dad always liked this picture. I was quite pregnant with the twins and we knew they were girls. We didn't know their names at the time. Grandma was the one to take this picture. We were on our way to hit a buffet dinner (of course) at Golden Corral and I think it was in honor of Dad's birthday.

Grump-Pa would be ashamed!!

Today for lunch, the girls had macaroni and cheese. Towards the end of the meal, Ady asked for Peas.

"You really want peas??"

"UH-HUH!"

I warmed some up and both girls ate a steaming heap of peas to their little hearts' content.

Their Grump-Pa Rex would be ashamed!!

Proud Grandpa!

I've been thinking about Dad a lot lately. I sure do miss him. The girls still talk about "Pop Pop" anytime they see things that remind them of him. I have his walking cane that he accidentally left here one trip, and a hairbrush he used to brush out his beard to gross us out before we'd go into a restaurant. I also wear his old leather belt - Heidi has another belt of his too. Just little things that we find comforting to have around.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him with the girls. I wish it was better quality (took it with my old cell phone), but it's a clear picture of Rex, my dad, in his tan shirt and overalls pushing a double stroller through a parking lot. He'd always say when people would ask anything about the girls, "I don't know nuthin'. I'm just the Grandpa." Classic Rex!

I'm so glad that he got to meet his little granddaughters. I know he's up there now, telling all the other grand-kids stories and things about Earth.

I love you, Dad. The girls sure do miss their Grump-Pa, too!
